British White Cattle - Balderstone

The Balderstone herd was established in 2006 with the purchase
of two cows from the Nidderdale Herd, closely followed by the arrival of
current stock bull, Bickford Curlew. Since then breeding heifers
and cows with calves at foot have been carefully selected and purchased
from established herd such as the De Beauvoir, Smarden and Wispers.

The bedrock of the herd is based on a female called Wispers "Pompadour" who was
the Champion Heifer at the Royal Show in 2007, she was bought at Melton Mowbray Native Breed sale
that year and has since produced some tremendous followers. The females have been retained to increase and develop the herd.

The Balderstone herd is currently the closest geographical herd
to the origin of the breed at Whalley Abbey.

The purpose of the Balderstone herd is to promote the British White breed within
the local area and to hopefully maintain its sustainability as a native breed for future generations.
